Persimmons are a fascinating fruit eaten throughout Asia that has a sweet, mild, and rich taste. Its honey-like flavour could be described as a more tangy papaya. Its flesh has a texture similar to that of an apricot or peach, but its skin is as tough as an apple's. Persimmons are packed with Vitamin C and fibre, and they taste excellent in pies and crumbles, as garnishing on cakes, or chopped up into a fruit salad.
Persimmons should be kept at room temperature until ripe. Once ripe, pack them in zip lock pouches and store in the crisper drawer.
Cut persimmons into two halves and coat them in honey, ginger and lemon and bake them in the oven to make a heavenly honey-baked persimmon.
